The Ancient Megalodon (abbreviated as AM) is an Apex shark in Hungry Shark World which was added on May 16th, 2020. Powerful and beast-like, she has a powerful knockback resistance to mines especially when coupled with a Force Field. Her cost is 5000 pearls.

Abilities and Diet

She can create thunderous shockwaves that destroy any prey they touch, including creatures she cannot eat such as Lion's Mane Jellyfish and Ultra Mines. Ancient Megalodon, like every Apex and !! sharks (excluding Atomic, Meltdown and Quantum) can eat everything except for Red Jellyfish, Lion's Mane Jellyfish, Mega Mines, Proximity Mines, and Ultra Mines.

The Shockwave can destroy anything, but with the exception of Barriers, Helicopters, Mini Subs and Shark Cages.

Appearance

Ancient Megalodon is a brown shark with bony plates running on her back and pectoral fins. her chin is covered in teeth and has exposed muscles on the sides of her body. Like !! sharks, she can equip 3 pets, and can break purple crystal walls. This shark is similar to Megalodon but notably, large and numerous pieces of bones and exposed teeth can be seen all over her jaw.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

• Her ability doesn't need to be charged to work. There is only a 1.5 second cooldown, making her rather spammable
• Great stats, robust body and defense and strength
• Can create shockwaves that destroy most prey and enemies
• As an Apex shark, she has higher stats than previous sharks, especially the bite stat
• Decent price compared to other Apex sharks

Cons:

• Like !! and Apex sharks with the exception of 2 / 3 sharks (Atomic Shark, Dark Magic Shark, Meltdown Shark) she cannot pass through some areas, such as the pipe system leading to the pool due to her size
• Cannot break barriers, helicopters, yellow submarines and shark cages with her shockwave ability.
• Not versatile; cannot equip clothes
• Outclassed by the other Apex sharks
• The x3 that can be obtained by ability is only multiplied by the original score (serious loss)
• Fast health drain and slow boost refill
• Shockwave has limited range, you may bump into a mine after using the ability, due to the mine being offscreen while the ability is used.

Tips

• Always use the Thunderous Shockwave ability on prey Ancient Megalodon can't eat such as Proximity mines, Lion Jellyfish, Ultra mines etc.

Trivia

• Even though the ability can activate by just a tap, holding the ability button will result in the jaws that forms the ability button to open up before crushing, along with the effects of the thunderous shockwave appear between the jaws.
• The design of the Ancient Megalodon could have been inspired by the Deviljho, a recurring monster from the Monster Hunter series, from the large scar from her mouth and the teeth beard.
• The Ancient Megalodon alongside the Apex sharks cannot equip costumes like king set and the apex sharks don't even have a skin option like other tier sharks.
• In contests sometimes you will find out that the Apex tier sharks can wear costumes. This is possibly a glitch or a cheat/hack.
• When maxed out she has the health of a Lvl 1 Alpha Zombie Shark.
• When equipping the Force Field, the shield effect on Ancient Megalodon stays a little bit longer than any other shark. This maybe happens because the Ancient Megalodon has a huge body.
• When equipping the Recycler Cannon or the Rocket Punch, it will remain invisible until you start a swim.
• You can see a bit of bone on her design.
• According to Aaron Morley of FGOL, the Ancient Megalodon is a female, and is named "Megan" internally.
  • She is the first Apex shark that is a female, and is one of the two Apex sharks that are females, the other being Mighty Matriarch.
  • In real life, female megalodons are larger and more dominant than males, this applies to nearly every shark species. This may be the reason why Ancient Megalodon being a female is way stronger and is one tier higher than Megalodon who is a male.
• The Ancient Megalodon is actually smaller than the Megalodon due to camera limitations. This may also be the case for Zombie Shark and Alpha Zombie Shark, as they are smaller than the Megalodon too.
• In one of the tips in the loading screen, it says that the Ancient Megalodon is the original Apex predator in the game which may imply that this Apex shark may not have been a mutated Megalodon but rather a more ancient and powerful precursor to the original Megalodon, so the DNA might be somehow reverted.
• When she dies, there is a short period of time where you can still activate her ability (same goes for the other Apex sharks).
• The short form to pronounce her name is Ancient Meg or "AM".
• There used to be a bug where she costs 4000 pearls despite the discount tag says “60% off”(which will make her cost 2000 pearls instead), however, this bug is now patched.
• There is a bug that if you keep spamming the ability, you will get stuck in it, where you go very slow, and the ability doesn’t work.
• Despite being called the original Apex predator. She (Along with other Playable Sharks including the ones who are Apex Tier) can be hunted and be killed by Natural Prey such as Dolphins (Including Orcas)and other Sharks aside Humans and the Colossal squid (Who isn’t Natural but a Mutant Predator). Apex Predators in real life have no natural predators and are top of the food chain.
  • Furthermore, the 1st Apex Predator to have evolve on Earth is the Anomalocaris which has been around in the Ocean from 520 to 499 million years ago.
  • Due to these facts, the “Original Apex Predator” probably means that she is one of the first Apex sharks to be released in game.
