Menu for Extinction Mode

Extinction Mode is a game mode in Hungry Shark World. It is unlocked after purchasing an XXL shark, though it can be played with lower tiers. It features mutations which are events that happen every 30 seconds or so that make the gameplay different in some way, such as making the shark smaller, or making turtles everywhere. Extinction Mode is the only place to earn pearls, aside from a special offer, and pearls are rewarded when a player lasts a certain amount of time. It costs 5,000 gold to play Pacific Wasteland and 10,000 gold to play Arctic Apocalypse.

Rewards[]

The player earns pearls when they die, or survive extinction mode. The longer the player survives, the more pearls they can get. The player can also eat pearl fish, watch ads, spend gems, and purchase a special offer to earn extra pearls.

Tables showing the times survived and pearl rewards are below

Pacific Wasteland
Time survived Pearl Rewards
1:00 5 Pearls
2:30 15 Pearls
5:00 25 Peals
7:30 50 Pearls
Arctic Apocalypse
Time Survived Pearl Rewards
1:30 8 Peals
3:30 20 Pearls
6:30 35 Pearls
10:00 80 Pearls

Mutations[]

Below are tables with mutations, their descriptions, and if you should re-roll them. Note: re-rolling is entirely up to you. If you want a challenge don't re-roll anything. Some mutations are either beneficial or harmful depending on the shark.

Trivia[]

  • There used to be a mutation called “Inverted Controls”, where the player’s control was reversed. (Up is down, left is right, and vice versa.) However, it has since been removed in later updates, likely because it is too difficult and intrusive.
  • World Rotation and (formerly) Inverted Controls can be reverted when they're rolled a second time.
  • If your shark died while World Rotation was active, the shark’s corpse will float to the water's surface.
    • There is a rare chance that a shark’s corpse can float into the sky if low gravity is on when the shark died near the water's surface.
