— In-game description
|
Francis, (also known as the Ray of Light), is the 10th Apex "shark" in Hungry Shark World. He was released on November 20, 2023, on Android.
Description[]
Francis, who is known as the Ray of Light, is a powerful Manta Ray with multiple psychic abilities to help him survive in the ocean. To buy him, the player must first own Meltdown Shark, then he will be available for purchase with 10,000 pearls.
Prior to v5.6.1, he was unlocked for purchase by rescuing 50 Manta Rays in the Arabian Sea during the Ray's Revenge event, which has since been removed.
Appearance wise, Francis is a large Manta Ray with multiple glowing spots and swirls on his body. The color of his upper body is navy blue, and the glowing parts are bright yellow, while his underbelly is dark brown. His tail is forked and there are two shorter tail-like appendages next to his tail. He is constantly accompanied by multiple remoras that either follow him around leaving light trails or attach to his underbelly.
Upon completing his final Shark Quest, his appearance temporarily becomes constantly shifting in color. Touching the green-colored Dave around the Kempy Grave will restore this state for the rest of a run.
Abilities[]
The Mind Dash ability in action
Mind Dash: Mind Dash is tied to Francis' boost, and regenerates the more boost he has. When activated via the Mind Dash button, Francis briefly dashes forward rapidly while spinning around, destroying anything in the way. The ability is stackable.
Psychic Pulse's field
Psychic Pulse after being used to destroy prey
Psychic Pulse: Also known as Psycho Pulse[1], this AoE ability is regenerated by using Mind Dash, and is stackable up to 8. The more stacks of this ability Francis have, the more remoras are gained making the ability more powerful. When the Psychic Pulse button is pressed, the camera zooms out as Francis' remoras, acting as conduits to channel his psychic power, swim around him forming a large blue field that grows in size. After pressing the button again, the field disappears, and thin streams of psychic energy appear and vaporize any prey caught within the field.
Pros and Cons[]
Pros[]
- Stackable abilities
- Psychic Pulse has a large range
- Has a whopping max speed of 1000
- Large camera view especially when using Psychic Pulse
- Very powerful in Extinction Mode
Cons[]
- Difficult to obtain due to costing 10,000 pearls
- Slightly weaker bite than other Apex Sharks
- Cannot fly without the Jetpack
- Abilities are hard to control
- High health drain
- Extremely expensive (10,000 pearls) for a shark that's actually less powerful, than sharks such as Cosmic Alan and Abyssal Shark that cost 2000 pearls less than this shark, but, it has a 60% discount, though you need Meltdown Shark unlocked.
- Can't eat Red Jellyfish, unlike his precursor, Quantum
- Camera requires graphics set to Ultra to zoom out and ability to work
- Arguably has a higher skill ceiling than Clowncy and the the first three Apex Sharks but probably not as good as the Two Sharkjiras, Cosmic Alan, Abyssal Shark, Quantum Shark and even Mighty Matriarch. Also, usually outmatched by Undersharker and Sharchangel.
- Generally recommended to buy last, and not as a primary focus.

Trivia[]
- Francis is named after former Ubisoft London artist Dan Francis, likely as a tribute due to the company shutting down.
- All the manta pets released alongside Francis are also named after Ubisoft London employees.
- After completing his final Shark Quest, "Rainbow Francis" is activated, which changes Francis' appearance to constantly changing hues. This is the first time completing a Shark Quest changes a shark's appearance in any way.
- His appearance reverts back to its original look after this, unless the player touches the green Dave near Kempy's Grave in Pacific Islands. After doing this, Rainbow Francis is reactivated for the rest of the run.
- His design slightly resembles Aquilo from another installment game, Hungry Shark Primal.
- Even though Francis is not a shark, rays and sharks are closely related as they both belong to the subclass elasmobranchii which also includes Sawfish.
