“ | The Planet Killer is back on Earth to rain hellfire. | ” |
— In-game description.
|
The Mighty Matriarch is the eighth Apex "shark" in Hungry Shark World. She is also the Apex version of Big Momma, a previously established character and her mutated form within the game.
Description[]
The Mighty Matriarch is a heavily modified Big Momma that slightly resembles a meteor. She is one of the largest sharks in-game in terms of model size, around a similar size to Megalodon.
Abilities & Diet[]
The Mighty Matriarch is a fairly powerful creature, possessing the ability to summon powerful solar and shockwave powers, much like other Apex and !! sharks. While she can consume almost any prey, there are certain prey that she cannot consume, including Red Jellyfish, Lion Jellyfish, Proximity Mines, and Ultra Mines. However, she is unique among the Apex Tier sharks in that she can efficiently ignite any prey, including those that she cannot consume. Her speed also allows her to ram into her prey and ignite them quickly, earning her the menacing description of "The Planet Killer is back on Earth to rain hellfire."
Meteor Form:
After boosting for five seconds, the Mighty Matriarch gains kinetic energy, which manifests as an orange wave around her. This ability significantly increases her speed and enables her to obliterate prey in her path. As the ability is used, the Meteor Form field expands in size. After ten seconds, the field emits a loud rumbling noise and causes the Mighty Matriarch's fur to glow a fiery orange, intensifying the destructive power of the ability.
She possesses exceptional jumping and gliding abilities, allowing her to soar through the air with ease. However, it is worth noting that her Meteor Form ability does not enhance her jumping or gliding capabilities and instead focuses solely on increasing her speed and destructive power.
Solar Shockwave:
The Solar Shockwave ability is activated through a skill button that is charged by boosting. As the Mighty Matriarch uses her boost, the skill button's arm moves higher, indicating the progress of the charge. However, if the boost is stopped, the skill button's arm will lower. To fully charge the skill button, the player must continue to boost until the arm reaches its highest point. At this point, a guitar riff sound plays, and flames appear on the exhausts of the ability button. Once the skill button is fully charged, activating it results in another guitar riff sound as a massive orange shockwave emanates from the Mighty Matriarch, obliterating anything within its range.
Unstoppable: Similar to her base shark, Big Momma, the Mighty Matriarch is immune to being stunned by mines or divers.
Appearance[]
She has a spiked crown and a large red mane of fur, as well as tufts of fur on her back and tail. When Meteor Form is active for a while, or if Solar Shockwave is ready, her fur glows orange. Her eyes appear to be scarred and white, and she has very scaly skin. Like Big Momma and Big Daddy, she has a strange pharyngeal jaw. She also wears metallic armor with broken chains on each side.
Pros and Cons[]
Pros:[]
- Good health
- Easy to charge up abilities
- Very fast when Meteor Form is activated, a trait which Big Momma lacks (possibly on par with or even faster than Meltdown Shark)
- Solar Shockwave has a massive range
- Racks up points fast
- Gets Gold Rush quickly
- Great boost
- Meteor Form has a large range
- One of the strongest Apex sharks
- Outclasses most !! sharks and some Apex sharks
- Doesn't stop in place when Solar Shockwave is active, allowing Mighty Matriarch to use it and Meteor Form at the same time.
- Has theoretically infinite boost during the Boost Drains Health mutation in Extinction Mode. This makes her very powerful during Extinction Mode
- Like Big Momma, is not stunned by mines or diver spears
Cons:[]
- Extremely expensive; costs 10000 pearls which is even more than any Apex shark before her (not counting Shin Sharkjira which costs 6000 pearls and requires Mecha Sharkjira which also costs 6000 pearls, thus making Shin Sharkjira technically cost 12000 pearls)
- Due to her costliness, many consider her not worth the price
- Some players consider her weak compared to previous sharks like Shin Sharkjira, Cosmic Alan, and Mecha Sharkjira
- Very fast health drain later in-game
- Huge hitbox can get her stuck in tight areas
- Can't swim in the air unlike Cosmic Alan or Abyssal Shark, requires a Jetpack to fly
- May be weaker in locations without turtles, due to turtles regenerating boost allowing her ability to last longer
- Like all Apex sharks, she cannot equip accessories (but can equip gadgets)
- The ability button's arm will go back to where it started if you stop boosting.
- Severely weakened by the Random Boost mutation in Extinction Mode
- Expensive upgrade costs
- The Meteor Form ability disables if you stop boosting
Tips[]
- Make sure to stay boosting to activate your ability.
- Eat turtles to restore boost.
- Use Solar Shockwave in an area with lots of fish to kill them.
- Don't bother attempting to squeeze into tight spaces, since this shark has a large hitbox. Instead, if you want to reach prey you can't get to, use the Solar Shockwave ability to get them, as it has a very large range.
- Use Meteor Form when charging through plenty of prey.
- Use Meteor Form and Solar Shockwave together for maximum score.
- Always skip the Random Boost mutation in Extinction Mode since it can ruin gameplay.

Trivia[]
- She is a reward in the premium tier of the third Splash Pass.
- Her model was leaked during the update that introduced Abyssal Shark, long before she was actually added in game.
- Her name is an alliteration, as well as a variation on the name "Big Momma".
- She is shown in promotional images as a rock star. This is reflected in-game with the electric guitar riffs that play when her skill button is charged or activated.
- Although she is shown flying around the sun in her teaser, she cannot fly without a Jetpack in-game. This is also implied by how she uses her Meteor form like a meteor subjecting (moving in different directions) its presence close to the sun while floating.
- She is the mutated version of Big Momma.
- Her pharyngeal jaw looks simpler and lacks a mutated mouth compared to Big Momma's and Big Daddy’s pharyngeal jaws.
- Before she was released, FGOL repeatedly stated that the third Splash Pass would be 'mighty', as well as stating that the new shark will start with the letter M. These are both teasers to Mighty Matriarch's addition
- The third Splash Pass has a flame theme with its interface, a reference to Mighty Matriarch's skill button burning when ready.
- Her Solar Shockwave ability's effect is partially the same as the radar effect of Gaia's baby sharks in the game, but bigger.
- In the Chinese version, she is translated as 火龙鲨鱼 (Fire Dragon Shark) and requires 5000 gems.
- Some of her design is probably inspired by Bowser, since she has red hair, and a shell. She also has those features.
